Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins appeared on the 10 Questions with Kyle Brandt Podcast from Spotify this week, and answered questions from the NFL Network’s Brandt.

The interview was pretty rote until Cousins was asked about COVID-19, and how he feels about a nationwide push to wear masks to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Cousins implied that he doesn’t thinks masks are worth the effort, and that he was taking a “survival-of-the-fittest kind of approach” to the disease. He concluded by saying “if I die, I die.”

It should be noted that the NFL has placed strict protocols on its teams to prevent the spread of the disease, which includes wearing a mask. The CDC has advised that wearing a mask can greatly reduce the transmission of COVID-19. And Cousins did say that he wears a mask per the NFL’s protocol.

This all started in the interview when Brandt asked, “If 1 is the person who says, ‘Masks are stupid, you’re all a bunch of lemmings’ and 10 is, ‘I’m not leaving my master bathroom for the next 10 years,’ where do you land?”

Cousins answered, via a transcript from the New York Post: “I’m not gonna call anybody stupid, for the trouble it would get me in. But I’m about a .000001.”

When Brandt asked why he felt that way, Cousins replied:

“I want to respect what other people’s concerns are. For me personally, just talking no one else can get the virus, what is your concern if you could get it, I would say I’m gonna go about my daily life. If I get it, I’m gonna ride it out. I’m gonna let nature do its course. Survival-of-the-fittest kind of approach. And just say, if it knocks me out, it knocks me out. I’m going to be OK. You know, even if I die. If I die, I die. I kind of have peace about that.”

Fascinating worldview.
